Can first quarter really be over and all of us well into second quarter?
First, third through sixth grades have implemented departmentalized activities on Thursday from 3 - 3:45. Ms. Parks has been doing art projects, Ms. Brunton has been focusing on Montana, Ms. Dalling has been working with STEM projects, and I have had a cross section of 3-6 graders doing drama. Last Thursday we shared our production of A Pirate’s Tale, and it was a wonderful success enjoyed by participants and audience. Students have enjoyed the diverse opportunities provided by the departmentalization, and the plans are to continue it throughout the school year.
In sixth grade we are working on a writing project using our brand new iPads! These were provided through a grant made available through the North Yellowstone Education Foundation (NYEF). The students are very excited about creating multimedia projects using the iPads; using multimedia software, we will focus on their experiences of living in a gateway community to a national park.
In fifth grade, we are reading Blood on the River, a great book written by a native of Virginia, on the settlement of the Jamestown colony. Fittingly, we are also studying early colonization of North America in social studies. Finally, we are finishing our personal narratives that focus on experiences that students had while on Expedition Yellowstone.
Busy and productive times for 5/6 language arts and social studies!!
