Greetings Parents,
The purpose of this message is to provide you with more detailed information about Gardiner School’s Friday School program. Our current Friday School program was approved by the school board three years ago and addresses the importance of academics, in addition to participation in extracurricular activities for student achievement. MHSA is the state level governing body of extracurricular activities in Montana and does provide an eligibility policy, which the Gardiner School policy exceeds in expectations. Friday School is the opportunity for students to have access to resources within the school building and a quiet, supportive teacher-supervised space. Any student may attend Friday School to work on assignments or to receive extra help and instruction. Why do students have Friday School? Students who are not able to complete their missing or incomplete assignments between Monday morning and Thursday afternoon, by the end of the school day, are required to attend Friday School from 8 am - 10 am in order to participate in extracurricular activities. On Mondays students are provided a physical strip of paper with the missing or incomplete assignments listed for each of their teachers on their locker. They are also provided with instructions specific for that week’s requirements about dates and times on their locker. The Athletic Director and individual coaches are also provided with a list of students who are on the Friday School list. Occasionally, an event will occur during the week, for example PepBand for divisional volleyball was on a Thursday, and the students were notified and required to turn in their missing work by Wednesday afternoon to participate. Due to technical and logistical difficulties, parents have not been notified that their students have had missing or incomplete assignments through the notification tool on Infinite Campus this school year. Beginning on Monday, December 2nd the notifications will be turned back on and will only send parents/guardians a messages once a week on Monday morning. If you receive one of these messages, please follow up with your student about their work completion and be prepared to bring them to Friday School at 8 am - 10 am if the work is not completed and the slip has not been signed and turned in to the front office by Thursday at 4 pm. The parents of students who do not turn in their missing/incomplete assignment slip to the front office by Thursday at the end of the school day will receive a second email through Infinite Campus that their child is required to attend Friday School. If a student who is in extracurricular activities fails to attend Friday School they will be unable to participate in their event from that Friday until the morning of the following Friday. Parents will be notified through Infinite Campus on Friday morning that their student is ineligible for the week. In the event that you receive multiple notices on a single assignment from week to week please contact that teacher directly for more information relating to the progress of the assignment.
